Sepúlveda

Sepulveda is located between the hills of Somosierra and La Picota.
This city is antique and was a Celt fortress. Then use to be called Septempublicam under the Romans. From the Visigots, we still have some edifices like the Roman church of Salvador.
Fernan Gonzalez tried his best to repopulate Sepulveda, at this time a border population existed. A juridiction was used for the several populations from Castile and in one part of Extremadure Castellan taking to Saragosse.

The Extremadure has preserved relics of the past from its intense and vast history.
Like for exemple a house of the XVIII° century or the great wall (fortification) of the XII century which surrounded the city, composed by seven gates like the Fuerza, Arco de la Villa, el Azogue, del Rio and Hacce-Homo.
We still have today ruins and churches from this era.

Without forgetting that around and from Sepulveda, we can see the outstanding hills of Duraton located in the nature park of Duraton.
El rio de Duraton (river) starts from Puerto Somossiera, in the mid-term of this river, you’ll find grottos enlarging upon 25 km and deep to 100 metres.
Simply stunning !
